Part 1: Set-up your Website/Digital Portfolio: Set up website (using a free website-maker like WordPress).

A website has multiple purposes: for engaging digital literacies; for co-creating (with students) literary magazines, media/arts sites, science journals, journalism websites; for creating portfolios; for establishing blogs and forums for communication with students and families, (just to name a few examples).

As this site/portfolio will (for the moment) be used to document and share your work in this course please consider the design/aesthetics and usability features of your website, and take some care in selecting your template etc.

Expectations:

  • Remove all stock images / content that come with the template. Delete or replace with your own; eliminate non-necessary template pages and ‘widgets’; delete / replace stock images (personalize) and text.
  • Please create a ‘Resources Page’ for curating and collected resources like new applications, useful educational or technology websites, curriculum websites, creative tools/media.
  • Document processes and practices of learning (interacting with the webpage building software/tools; utilizing web-based resources like video tutorials, FAQs, community resources; obstacles encountered and how they were overcome; experiences of frutration or enjoyment etc).  Informal / bullet points is fine!)

Send Link: Once you have set up your site, send me an email – kthumlert@edu.yorku.ca – with a link to your website. For all assignments please ALERT ME (via email) when you have posted completed work. I can then provide feedback.
